The Heiligenstadt Testament

Composed by me, this is the final composition I wrote for my composition class of 2019. Using portions of the text from Beethoven's famous Heiligenstadt Testament, I wrote a piece for SATB. Each voice represents a different part of Beethoven's psyche. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the following recording includes sound files from four singers, all edited together.

Soprano - Amalia Crevani
Alto - Katherine Dobbs
Tenor - William Pearson
Bass - Jesse Fromme

Eyes of Gold

This piece was actually not composed by me, but rather my good friend, Jon Kroeger. I had the immense pleasure to sing the vocal line of this piece in collaboration with Dr. Amanda Hopson on the piano. Below are some words about the composition by Jon Kroeger:

Envisioned as the finale of a one-woman opera, “Eyes of Gold” is an aria for soprano that shows the moment her life-long quest is over. Whether that means she found her lost lover or met him in the afterlife, we don’t know. Regardless, she is now reunited with him. Bittersweet words wrapped around a haunting melody demonstrate the dichotomy of both possibilities. Are they reunited on Earth, only to find that he has passed? Are they reunited in the afterlife, only for her to learn of he forgot about her after the world separated them? Does she care one way or the other?
